Title of the contribution:
Network of Green corridors of Herzegovina
Keywords:
cycling paths, cultural heritage, natural heritage, sport
and recreation, green corridor
Type of presentation: Oral
Theme:
tourist roads, paths and trails (and Sports and recreation
tourism)
Purpose of study:
Purpose of this research is to connect objects and sites
of cultural and natural heritage and urban areas through
a network of green corridors, in order to create a
unique tourist offer of Herzegovina, and to raise the quality
of life of local population.
Methodology/Approach:
During the design of Physical plans of municipalities
and different studies it has been noticed that there is
missing a comprehensive approach towards tourism,
or a long-term acceptable tourist function of cultural
and natural heritage. The analysis of these documentation
and topographic maps, and monitoring of global
trends, resulted in the idea of Green corridors, that would
become a precondition for a sustainable and environmentally
friendly way of tourism development.
Findings:
The research has resulted in designing a network of
Green corridors which interrelated objects of cultural
and natural heritage, as well as urban areas which ga-
ined sports and recreational zones. Rural areas, that are
empting for decades, are being activated. Abandoned
infrastructure facilities are recycled and given a function
of tourism and sport and recreation. Generally, the
tourist offer is enriched and Bosnia and Herzegovina
is strengthened on the tourist map of Europe where it
has been already recognized as a country whose main
advantages are the natural conditions for development
of extreme sports (skiing, rafting, hiking, biking, rock
climbing).
Originality/Value:
The analysis of available documentation and examination
of the situation in the field showed that the approach
to tourism of the subject area is based on a classic,
but outdated form, while global trends claim different
tourism. Previous studies have mainly dealt with the
individual sites that are already known and recognized.
This is the first study of Herzegovinian area in this way.
Research limitations/Implications:
The research is based on the premise that tourism is not
developed enough and that simultaneously has a great
potential for development. Actual limitations in the research
didn’t exist because the authors have had insight
into valid and necessary information.
Practical implications:
The idea of “Green Corridors of Herzegovina” can easily
be put into a project that could be implemented in a
short period, and become an example of good practice,
if there would be no administrative obstacles.
