Purpose of study:<br />

The aim was to investigate quantitative and qualitative<br />

market of rural tourism and to determine the significance<br />

of cultural tourism offer in destination product of<br />

rural tourism.<br />

Methodology/Approach:<br />

Descriptive method will be use to explain and to determine<br />

the role of cultural tourism in the development<br />

of rural tourism. Benchmarking will be done to the<br />

Croatian rural tourism with Austria. After completion of<br />

the SWOT analysis of cultural tourism and rural tourism,<br />

the links between those two specific forms of tourism<br />

will be determent with the method of comparison. By<br />

synthesizing the obtained data, conclusions that can be<br />

implicated on the strategy of development of rural tourism<br />

will be projected.<br />

Findings:<br />

This paper will demonstrate the high importance of cultural<br />

tourism in the development of rural tourism. Rural<br />

areas are a precondition for the development of rural<br />

Structured abstract<br />

tourism; however it is not itself sufficient for the development<br />

of tourism. In such area tourist offer must be<br />

easily accessible. It is necessary to form a competitive<br />

product of rural tourism, which constitutes a large share<br />

of cultural tourism product. Therefore, this paper will<br />

provide suggestions for development of cultural tourism<br />

in order to increase the competitiveness of rural<br />

tourism products, which will serve to create a strategy<br />

of development of rural tourism.<br />

Originality/Value:<br />

This paper will provide a proposal model of strategic<br />

management of the development of cultural tourism<br />

in a manner to form a quality cultural-tourism product<br />

that will increase the competitiveness of rural tourism.<br />

The high importance of cultural tourism product in rural<br />

tourism will be determined in this paper, which is why<br />

the increase of quality of cultural tourism product is<br />

causing the competitiveness of rural tourism to increase<br />

in a greater extant.<br />

Research limitations/Implications:<br />

Results will be able to implicate in the theoretical science<br />

part in the development of scientific knowledge<br />

regarding the process of forming a cultural tourism<br />

product in a manner that creates a competitive tourism<br />

product;<br />

Practical implications:<br />

Proposals and research results in this paper will serve<br />

the experts in tourism as guidelines for the development<br />

of cultural tourism in a way to increase the competitiveness<br />

of rural tourism.<br />
