European Tourism Policies – How relevant are the for Rural
Tourism?
Abstract:
Since 2011, the European Commission is implementing
an ambitious program of 21 different actions related with
tourism in the EU. Several of these actions are of high interest
for rural tourism because they will help to increase
the international visibility and quality of this product: the
Low Season Tourism initiative, support to transnational
products, the European Tourism Quality label, and the Calypso
(social tourism) action. The presentation provides a
short introduction into the structure and general situation
of EU tourism policy, and then explain these four actions
and their positive potential for rural tourism in more detail.
