in Republic of Serbia

Purpose of study:
The purpose of this analysis is to point out to the importance
of the rural tourism and its influence to the
development of the overall touristic sector of Serbia.
In order to provide necessary preconditions for using
touristic potentials of Serbia, this analysis highlights
the importance of strategic rural tourism development
in the context of sustainable (touristic) development of
the country.
Methodology/Approach:
The analysis of the role and importance of rural tourism
in the context of the rural development of Serbia is
based on contemporary national and international teoretical
knowledge and relevant sources and applies adequate
quantitative and qualitative methodologies. The
methodologies used are: descriptive method, method
of analysis and synthesis, comparative method, inductive
and deductive method, as well as swot analysis.
Findings:
General expacted results will be related to confirmetion
of the basic presumption: If sustainable development

of tourism maily depens of the geographic physiology
of rural areas, than the potentions of the sustainable
touristic development of Serbia could be considered
as being important, having in mind that more then
80% of serbian territory is rural area inhabited with cca
44% of population. The results of this research should
highlights the importance of institutional regulation of
tourism sector as well as the key potentials needed for
successful implementation of strategic management of
rural tourism.
Originality/Value:
The main objective in this research is to assess if the resource
potentials for rural tourism developmnent are
recognized and used as the source for initiating and
creating of the innovations and competitive advantages.
It is envisaged to present the achieved results of
the scientific and expert conferences in the country and
internationaly and to publish them in the magazines of
national and international importance.
Research limitations/Implications:
Fact that touristic sector shares with cca 2,5 % in the
GDP and with cca 5-6% in the overall empoyment in
Republic of Serbia, points out that potentions of touristic
resources of Serbia are not adequate recognize and
valorize.
Practical implications:
The practical objective of this paper is to define main
standards and to give key directions for furher improvement
of sustainable rural tourism as a generator of sustainable
economic development of Republic of Serbia,
based on analysis of the present situation in the serbian
touristic sector.
