Impact of media on hunting tourism<br />

Purpose of study:<br />

Media influence on the people of extraordinary importance<br />

is directly dependent on the media and the relationship<br />

to the activities related to nature protection<br />

and environment. Media Coverage of past hunting and<br />

present research identified the pervasive negative media<br />

headlines about hunting in relation to the positive<br />

headlines.<br />

Methodology/Approach:<br />

The methodology of processing the collected data into<br />

several groups carried out the coupling of media titles<br />

on hunting published in 2010. and 2011. year in the<br />

whole of Croatia. Investigated the relationship between<br />

positive and negative minded titles that relate to hunting,<br />

analyzed and structured according to types of publications,<br />

with the survey instrument was a collection of<br />

published titles.<br />

Findings:<br />

Croatian hunters have given an immeasurable contribution<br />

to survival, existence and diversity of wildlife in<br />

our region. However, analysis of the incidence and types<br />

of reports in the Croatian media, it is evident that the<br />

perception of insufficient hunting, a considerable part<br />

unfavorably represented. The cause of the ignorance<br />

of the general public about hunting activity is partly a<br />

consequence of insufficient involvement of hunters. Accidents,<br />

illegal hunting, inappropriate behavior of some<br />

hunters and aggressive, and often times completely<br />

unsubstantiated performances “contrary hunting” oriented<br />

groups often find considerable space in the media<br />

which creates an environment for forming “against<br />

hunting” position. Guidance on research aimed at identification<br />

of these barriers that negatively affect the development<br />

of hunting tourism.<br />

Originality/Value:<br />

Contribution to greater involvement of hunters themselves<br />

in creating a positive perception of the public for<br />

hunting and hunting tourism in the media because the<br />

media created and formed public opinion toward hunting.<br />

The positive presentation of hunting in the media<br />

contributes to taking a more positive attitude towards<br />

all forms of hunting. Hunter’s professional journal is intended<br />

audiences, and hunting them generally do not<br />

read no hunters and it is important to create a favorable<br />

atmosphere toward hunting in other media, especially<br />

internet portals.<br />

Research limitations/Implications:<br />

Limitations to the methodology related to the inability<br />

of the actual readership of published articles, which can<br />

be monitored only by the number and type of reader<br />

comments online portal.<br />

Practical implications:<br />

Implementation of research in raising awareness and<br />

encouraging hunters themselves of their impact on<br />

changing attitudes in all media in various ways to<br />

change the currently unfavorable public image of hunting,<br />

and therefore on other services.<br />
