Purpose of study:
The purpose of the research is to analyze the total cost
of production of grapes in the vineyard Tepčići (Herzegovina)
through a three-year period with special reference
to the cost of protecting vines as one of the most
expensive items in total costs and to calculate the basic
economic indicators that will (not) confirm the role of
autochthony in selecting varieties.
Methodology/Approach:
To determine the labour cost, the total cost of protection,
turnover and cost of production of grapes and
their relationship has been used method of calculation
variable costs cover, while the underlying economic
indicators, productivity and efficiency, were calculated
using the known patterns.
Structured abstract
Findings:
Total cost of grape production in 2007 compared to
2006 increased, but in 2008 did not retain a tendency
to increase rather than declined. Costs of protection of
the vineyard, taking 2006 as base year, were reduced
in 2007 and in 2008 recorded an increase again. Coefficients
of production of grapes efficiency and economy
of protect vineyards have shown good results, except in
2006 because of lower yields.
Originality/Value:
Theoretically, the study emphasizes the importance of
grapes production costs as key prerequisites for increasing
the competitiveness of enterprises in the modern
business conditions in vine growing and winemaking
sector. Improving competitiveness in a practical sense,
therefore, can be achieved by introducing a model of
economic production of autochthonous grape variety
as is observed in the studied vineyard.
Research limitations/Implications:
One of the limitations faced by researchers of these or
similar theme is definitely hiding or lack of data on the
actual total costs and revenue of production.
Practical implications:
The developed model of economic production of grapes
with special emphasis on the protection of vines as one
of the most expensive items in the total costs could use
vine growing and winemaking companies to improve
their business.
