Show the picture of a group of students<br />

reading books. Then ask: “Do you enjoy reading<br />

books like these students? Do you share with<br />

your friends the books you have read? Find out<br />

from our story today how reading books could<br />

give you the feeling of belongingness. Read this<br />

on pp. 9-10 of your Batingaw magazine and get<br />

acquainted with the characters in the story.<br />

B. Development Activity<br />

What kind of a student was Blythe? What<br />

made her busy after class? What was her new<br />

hobby? Who was the founder of the Book Club<br />

where she was in? How did Blythe describe<br />

Juliet before and after they became friends?<br />

How many were they in the Book Club? What<br />

book had they finished reading? What is the<br />

next book that Juliet suggested to read? How<br />

much is the book? How did Blythe raise the<br />

money to be able to buy the book? How did<br />

her mother discover that she was lying? How<br />

did her mother handle the situation? What was<br />

Blythe’s promise to her mom? Give the moral<br />

of the story.<br />

C. Analysis<br />

Do you think it is <strong>sa</strong>fe to lie when your<br />

purpose is good? Explain your answer. Is it right<br />

to keep secrets from your parents? Why? What<br />

could have happened had Blythe not lied to her<br />

mother? Was Blythe’s mother considerate? Did<br />

Blythe receive the punishment due her?<br />

D. Generalization<br />

Lying is wrong even if the intention is good.<br />

Honesty is still the best policy.<br />

E. Application<br />

You joined a group of volunteers to help<br />

the flood victims in your community. You kept<br />

it secret from your parents thinking that they<br />

will not understand your purpose. You are worried<br />

after knowing that you have to spend the<br />

whole day helping the victims. Your parents do<br />

going to do?<br />

“Sinu-sino ang iyong mga kaibigan <strong>sa</strong> silid na<br />

ito?” Himukin ang i<strong>sa</strong>ng mag-aaral na tumayo<br />

<strong>sa</strong> harapan ka<strong>sa</strong>ma ang kanyang matalik na kaibigan.<br />

Sa<strong>sa</strong>bihin nila kung ano ang katangian ng<br />

bawat i<strong>sa</strong> na nagustuhan nila kaya sila naging<br />

matalik na magkaibigan.<br />

fight? How did Juliet’s friend feel after that?<br />

What condition did Juliet ask from her friend<br />

before forgiving her?<br />

C. Analysis<br />

Do you like Juliet’s attitude? Why? Why<br />

do you think she is so fascinated in reading<br />

books? Why do bookworms sometimes look<br />

odd to other people?<br />

If the argument between Juliet and her<br />

seatmate did not happen, do you think she can<br />

recruit other members to join her Book Club?<br />

Odd people, though sometimes misinterpreted,<br />

may still prove charming and interesting.<br />
