Site No. 99. Site Name: Kactaş 1<br />

UTM East 752699; UTM North 4026440. Date: Hell – Rom - Byz<br />

4/7/2008: This small, flat clay hill lies to the SW of site 97, along the coast<br />

near the modern holiday village of Deniz Yaykası, next to a fish restaurant.<br />

Clay deposits were visible in the road cut on the eastern side of the hill. A<br />

scatter of ceramic remains was present on the top of the hill and in the road<br />

cut. The location may ha<strong>ve</strong> been chosen for the availability of clay, which<br />

showed evidence of being mined in the modern period.<br />

Site No. 102<br />

UTM East 752583; UTM North 4026134. Date: Hell – Rom - Byz<br />

5/7/2008: This roughly triangular site SW of the holiday village of Deniz<br />

Yaylası was located on a stretch of NE-facing beach and a small associated<br />

small valley/wadi bed SE of the beach. This site is divided into two terraces,<br />

an upper and a lower. It is bounded by a small hill (Site 103) on the NE,<br />

and a small, acti<strong>ve</strong> stream on the south. A second hill rises to the south of<br />

the stream, forming the V shaped valley in which the site is located. A road<br />

recently been cut into the small hill to the NE re<strong>ve</strong>aled se<strong>ve</strong>ral burials. One<br />

piece of sarcophagus fragment may ha<strong>ve</strong> been found at the base of the hill.<br />

Site No. 103<br />

UTM East 752686 UTM North 402603<strong>3.</strong> Date: Rom<br />

5/7/2008: This site, located on an uncultivated and rocky hilltop/slope,<br />

consists mainly of a scatter of pottery. Se<strong>ve</strong>ral dense concentration of sherds,<br />

including part of a sarcophagus lid which probably belonged to tombs that<br />

were disturbed when some years ago a road was built across the hillside.<br />

Local inhabitants reported looters’ activities in the area.<br />
