In this study, effects of different concentrations of diazinon (0.01, 0.10, 0.25,
0.50 and 0.75ppm) on superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activity,
protein and glycogen amount and the sex ratio of P. turionellae were investigated by
using a meridic diet.
SOD activity was affected significantly by diazinon treatment. Especially at
72th and 96th hours, high concentrations of diazinon caused an increase in SOD
activity. CAT activity was less affected than SOD by diazinon treatment. One main
finding in this study that tried concentrations of diazinon did not cause decreasing in
CAT activity compared to control. Also, CAT activity showed increase depends on
concentration and exposure time of diazinon.
Diazinon treatment did not remarkably affect on protein amount of insects.
Glycogen amounts were significantly affected by diazinon at 24th and 48th hours;
however, it was not affected at 72th and 96th hours. At 24th hour, except 0.01 ppm
of diazinon, all concentrations of diazinon caused a significant decrease in glycogen
amount, while 0.5 ppm of diazinon caused an increase in glycogen amount of insect
at 48th hour.Lowest (0.01ppm) and highest (0.75ppm) concentrations of diazinon
caused significant decrease on total adult emergence ratio. Total female emergence
ratio significantly decreased in almost of all diazinon concentrations. Diazinon did
not considerably affect on male emergence ratio. Maximum total adult emergence
(76.25%) and female emergence (53.75%) was observed in control group.
