Anastylosis: Sebasteion (Figs. 12-15)The physical anastylosis of the east end of the three-storeyed South Buildingof the Sebasteion, begun in 2005, was continued under the direction of ThomasKaefer and Gerhard Paul, assisted by Emre Işık, Samantha Norton, Onur Öztürk,Özgür Öztürk.Work focused on the following: (1) the fixing of the stylobate of the Ionic orderin Room 1; (2) installing specially treated wooden beams to carry the concreteceiling of Room 1; (3) completion of the static ring-construction that anchors theback of the reconstructed marble facade to the building; (4) the building up of thedividing wall between Rooms 1 and 2; (5) the casting in artifical stone of missingblocks (Doric cornice, Ionic capitals and column bases); and (6) the casting inartificial stone of five reliefs to be included in the anastylosis of the Ionic order(the originals are in the new Sebasteion Hall of the Aphrodisias Museum). Theoriginal reliefs and architecture were first mounted in the conservation workshopas a trial (Fig. 12).
