RURAL DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH IN THE FOREST VILLAGES OFBEYPAZARI(M.Sc. THESIS)MUZAFFER ÖZSANABSTRACTThe aim of this study was to evaluate the projects of rural development made inKaraşar town, Saray and Köseler villages, and to draw the projections for development of thebasin. The material of the research has been obtained from the related literature, interviewsheld by the managers of related institutions and surveys applied to people living in the basin.This study was made by using the rapid rural development technique. In the research,frequency and the percent distribution tables were used. In this research, it was determinedand identified that economic resources of the basin is limited; people make their living fromforestry and livestock; literacy rate in middle and senior age is approximately 45%; peoplemeet their vegetables and fruit needs from Beypazarı. It was observed that majority of theyoung population had migrated to the cities, especially to Beypazarı and Ankara.In conclusion; the applications such as: the appropriate unit price fixing in the basintopography for forestry jobs, the applications providing food safety and income generating,the transfer of fruit tree plantation areas to public, education for livestock, opening rangelandsto use via rangeland management and credit applications, using cooperatives more consciousand actively, analysing educational problems, and using natural resources, will makeimportant contributions to the development of the basin.Key Words: Rapid Rural Appraisal (RRA), Beypazarı, social forestry, participation of ruralcommunity, social projects.Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Özden GÖRÜCÜPage number: 158Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam UniversityInstitute of Natural and Applied SciencesDepartment of Forestry Engineering 12 / 2011ii
