Sur<strong>ve</strong>y of Turkey) ha<strong>ve</strong> been carrying outcollaborati<strong>ve</strong> studies on the ancient sites around the gulf of ıskenderunsince 1991.During the summer of 1992, the archaeological team started to excavateKinet Höyük which is supposed to be the ancient Issus, whileOzaner studied the geomoıphologica! changes which had occured theplain of Issus in historica! times in erder, to find out the exact location ofthe harbour of Issus and to inteıpret it better than in other related archaeologicalfindings, During his study, he detected important changes in.the ri<strong>ve</strong>r beds of the plain of Issus, as well as in the coastal line of ıskenderunBay, which Hesat the western edge of the plain.
