EUROPEAN RESUSCITATION COUNCIL<br />

Interdisciplinary Council for Resuscitation Medicine and Emergency Medical Care<br />

The primary objective of the ERC is to save human life by improving standarts of resuscitation in Europe, and by coordinating<br />

the activities of European organisations with a legitimate interest in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.<br />

The secondary objectives are:<br />

1. to produce guidelines and recommendations appropriate to Europe for the practice of Cardiopulmonary and Cerebral Resuscitation.<br />

2. to design teaching programmes suitable for all trainees ranging from the lay public to the qualified physician.<br />

3. to conduct a critical review of CPR practice and to advise on updating guidelines<br />

4. to promote and encourage appropriate research<br />

5. to promote audit of resuscitation practice including the standardisation of records of resuscitation attempts<br />

6. to organising relevant scientific meetings in Europe<br />

7. to promoting political and public awareness of resuscitation requirements and practice<br />

The work of European Resuscitation Council is undertaken by Working Groups:<br />

1. Basic Life Support<br />

2. Advanced Life Support<br />

3. Pediatric Life Support<br />

4. Training and Education Working Group<br />

There are the following categories of membership:<br />

1. Active members<br />

(a) National Representatives: Representatives of European and national organizations with an interest in or active in the field<br />

of CPR, for example Anaesthetic, Cardiac, Intensive Care, Emergency Medicine and Resuscitation Societies, and relevant academic<br />

bodies.<br />

(b) Individual members: Medically qualified individuals making a special contribution on the field of CPR, approved by the<br />

Executive Committee.<br />

2. Associate members<br />

Medical non-European and non-medical individuals willing to participate in the activities of the Association.<br />

3. Corresponding members<br />

Individuals wishing to be informed of the activities of the Association<br />

4. Honarary members<br />

May be appointed by the Executive Committee. They will be individuals who have displayed outstanding merit in promoting<br />

the objectives of the Association.<br />

5. Patron members<br />

May be nominated by the Executive Committee from among the principal and major sponsors of the Association.<br />

The national or European Societies are encouraged to apply for an institutional subscription to the journal Resuscitation<br />

ERC MEMBERS AND RESUSCITATION<br />

All ERC members are cordially encouraged to make an active interest in the journal Resuscitation. Members are therefore<br />

invited:<br />

(a) to seek and encourage the submission of high quality research and clinical papers which are within the scope of journal.<br />

(b) to discuss with the editors and ERC officers whether the contents of the journal fulfil their needs.<br />

(c) to help the editors and publisher in seeking the best way in which potential readers can be informed about the journal.<br />

Individual ERC members are offered journal Resuscitation as part of the membership of the ERC<br />
