Tel..: +32 3 826 9321 ; Fax.: +32 3 826 9323 (secreteriat); e-mail: info@erc.edu; www.erc.edu The European Resusciation Council was founded in 1989 and includes representatives of major European countries, the major European organisations with interest in CPR, eg. the European Academy of Anesthesiology (EAA), the European Society for Cardiology (ESC), the European Society for Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), the European Society for Emergency Medicine (EuSEM), the Red Cross of EU Countries, and other national and/or multinational organisations that are active in the field of resuscitation. EUROPEAN RESUSCITATION COUNCIL Interdisciplinary Council for Resuscitation Medicine and Emergency Medical Care The primary objective of the ERC is to save human life by improving standarts of resuscitation in Europe, and by coordinating the activities of European organisations with a legitimate interest in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The secondary objectives are: 1. to produce guidelines and recommendations appropriate to Europe for the practice of Cardiopulmonary and Cerebral Resuscitation. 2. to design teaching programmes suitable for all trainees ranging from the lay public to the qualified physician. 3. to conduct a critical review of CPR practice and to advise on updating guidelines 4. to promote and encourage appropriate research 5. to promote audit of resuscitation practice including the standardisation of records of resuscitation attempts 6. to organising relevant scientific meetings in Europe 7. to promoting political and public awareness of resuscitation requirements and practice The work of European Resuscitation Council is undertaken by Working Groups: 1. Basic Life Support 2. Advanced Life Support 3. Pediatric Life Support 4. Training and Education Working Group There are the following categories of membership: 1. Active members (a) National Representatives: Representatives of European and national organizations with an interest in or active in the field of CPR, for example Anaesthetic, Cardiac, Intensive Care, Emergency Medicine and Resuscitation Societies, and relevant academic bodies. (b) Individual members: Medically qualified individuals making a special contribution on the field of CPR, approved by the Executive Committee. 2. Associate members Medical non-European and non-medical individuals willing to participate in the activities of the Association. 3. Corresponding members Individuals wishing to be informed of the activities of the Association 4. Honarary members May be appointed by the Executive Committee. They will be individuals who have displayed outstanding merit in promoting the objectives of the Association. 5. Patron members May be nominated by the Executive Committee from among the principal and major sponsors of the Association. The national or European Societies are encouraged to apply for an institutional subscription to the journal Resuscitation ERC MEMBERS AND RESUSCITATION All ERC members are cordially encouraged to make an active interest in the journal Resuscitation. Members are therefore invited: (a) to seek and encourage the submission of high quality research and clinical papers which are within the scope of journal. (b) to discuss with the editors and ERC officers whether the contents of the journal fulfil their needs. (c) to help the editors and publisher in seeking the best way in which potential readers can be informed about the journal. Individual ERC members are offered journal Resuscitation as part of the membership of the ERC IX
