No difference was found between the groups with respect to 6-minute walk
test performed at discharge (p>0.05).
High-dose steroid increased fasting blood glucose in 2 patients and postprandial
2-hour blood glucose in 1 patient.
Conclusion:
Our results indicate that, high dose steroid shows no advantage over low dose
steroid and it might increase side effect rates. Although we have shown that 1
mg/kg/day versus 2 mg/kg/day steroid had no different effects on respiratory
functions, dyspnea score, quality of life or blood gas analysis. However, large-scale
studies evaluating also 30-40 mg prednisolone suggested by GOLD guide-line are
required.
