also increased compared to baseline, however no statistical difference was observed<br />

between the groups (both p>0.05).<br />

No difference was found between the groups with respect to 6-minute walk<br />

test performed at discharge (p>0.05).<br />

High-dose <strong>steroid</strong> increased fasting blood glucose in 2 patients and postprandial<br />

2-hour blood glucose in 1 patient.<br />

Conclusion:<br />

Our results indicate that, high dose <strong>steroid</strong> shows no advantage over low dose<br />

<strong>steroid</strong> and it might increase side effect rates. Although we have shown that 1<br />

mg/kg/day versus 2 mg/kg/day <strong>steroid</strong> had no different effects on respiratory<br />

functions, dyspnea score, quality of life or blood gas analysis. However, large-scale<br />

studies evaluating also 30-40 mg prednisolone suggested by GOLD guide-line are<br />

required.
