Gynecologic cancers are the 4 th most common cancer group following breast, lung,
and gastrointestinal system cancers and constitute a serious public health issue due to their
mortality and morbidity rates around the world. The present descriptive and cross-sectional
study has been designed and carried out between January 2007 and June 2008 to evaluate the
knowledge level, behavior, and attitude about gynecologic cancers in the female healthcare
staff and the admitted female patients to Kirklareli State Hospital.
Our study group comprised 501 female patients and 96 female healthcare staff who
were between 15 and 64 years of age. The data on socio-demographic attributes, symptoms of
gynecologic cancers, risk factors, early diagnosis, preventive measures and preventive health
behavior have been collected with a survey including 70 questions and performed by a single
