the resort are from wells drilled by MTA. In addition, these waters are also utilized by hotels, baths
and motels belonging to City Private Management, Municipality and private sector. Temperature
of Kozaklı waters is measured as 43–50C in springs and 80-98C in wells. Waters are issued in a
wide swampy area as a small group of springs through buried faults. Around Kozaklı, the Kırşehir
massive is overlain by thick salty and gypsiferous evaporitic rocks of Oligocene age. In this
respect, waters are mostly of Na-Ca-Cl-SO4- SiO2 or Na-Cl-SO4-SiO2 type waters. The study area
is affected from the Erciyes volcanism which was started in the Miocene and ceased in Pliocene.
According to results of environmental isotopes ( 18 O, 2 H, 3 H), thermal waters are of meteoric origin
and heated by an intrusive-cupola or some of rainwater is infiltrated downward through fractures
and fault systems and heated with the geothermic gradient and rise to the surface along fault and
effective fractures that act as hydrothermal conduits. 13 CDIC values indicate that carbon in the
Kozaklı cold waters are controlled by CO2 accumulated in soil or pores in the underground. Carbon
in thermal waters is believed to originate from dissolution of marine carbonate rocks. However,
carbon in low-temperature waters is derived from an organic source. 34 S ratios in thermal waters
range from 12 to 23.9‰. 34 S ratio of cold waters could not be determined. Sulfur isotope contents
of thermal waters correspond to those of terrestrial evaporates and limestones. 34 S ratio of sample
2 that is collected from swampy mud is depleted in comparison to other thermal waters. . The
Erciyes volcanism which was started in the Neogene time was very effective in formation thermal
and mineral waters in the study area. This study comprises a part of project founded by the Turkish
National Scientific Council (TUBITAK) under grant no 104Y167.
