INTRODUCTION
BIBLIOGRAPHY OF ARTICLES IN TURKISH PERIODICALS (TMB) has
been published by the National Library of Turkey since 1952 without any
interruption, in order to facilitate easy access to information by the researchers.
TMB includes articles selected from the scientific, cultural, educational and
other important periodicals received by the National Library. It is published
monthly.
With the introduction of the new computer program, automated version
of the January 1993 issue was published and the application of the same
procedure continues at present time. The system of TMB is in accordance with
the Dewey Decimal Classification System. Beginning from the January 1994
issue subject numbers are assigned according to the 2 nd summary of 20 th
edition (DDC 20) of the Dewey Decimal Classification System. The
bibliographical records of articles are entered alphabetically under the surname
of the author and under the corresponding subject number. In the case of non
availability of the author's name, or if there are more than three authors the
record is entered under the title of the article. To provide easy access,
bibliographic records with two or more subject numbers are also given in
corresponding sections. But there are no subject and record numbers on the
referred bibliographic records. In some areas subject numbers are in more
detail due to the availability of great number of articles. Examples to these kind
of areas are shown below:
297 Islam and religions originating in it
355 Military science
915.61 Geography of Turkey
956.1 History of Turkey
Bibliographic records of articles about biography (under subject number
920) are arranged in alphabetical order in bracket under the related subject
number with the surname of the person whose biography is presented, and in
case of professions according to the professional groups.
When cataloging articles information is entered in the following order:
• Issue no./Year
• The initial subject number (plus sequence number of the initial subject
number)
• Surname and the name of the author
• Title of the article (if available, names of contributors such as
translator, compiler)
• Name of the periodical in which the article published
• Information about volume and date (month, year, page numbers, notes)
• Periodical's stock number in the library
• Initial subject number, if available other subject numbers
INDEX OF AUTHOR NAMES, INDEX OF ARTICLE TITLES and the
INDEX OF INCLUDED PUBLICATIONS are prepared for each issue. Access from
the INDEX OF AUTHOR NAMES and the INDEX OF ARTICLE TITLES to
bibliographic records is provided through subject numbers and their sequence
numbers. Access from the ANNUAL INDEX OF AUTHOR NAMES and the INDEX
OF ARTICLE TITLES is provided through issue numbers, given with Roman
numerals next to subject number, and sequence number.
Bibliography of Articles in Turkish Periodicals has been produced in CD
format and monthly since the begining of 2003. Furthermore, it is planned to be
published annually together with annual index.
