Geoenergi på Ikea SvågertorpAbstractTitleAuthorLund UniversityTutorsGeothermal Energy Solution at IKEA in MalmöVisualization and monitoring of geothermal energy at IKEA inMalmo concerning 2009-2011Magdalena HornEnvironmental Engineering towards Energy Systems Analysis,Dr Patrick Lauenburg, Department of EnergyLund University - Lund Institute of TechnologyAnna Ekdahl, Sweco EnvironmentTobias Malmgren, IKEA PropertiesProblem presentationWhen the new IKEA store in Malmö was installed in 2009 the advertising was aiming topresent the world's greenest IKEA store, where energy supply came from a geothermal energysolution. Geothermal energy solutions are classified as renewable energy since 2007 by theSwedish Energy Agency. A number of new IKEA stores have followed the same course andare using different geothermal energy solutions as energy sources. IKEA Svågertorp inMalmö is built and operated with ambitious environmental goals. The question of this reportwill compare and put into perspective how sustainable the IKEA store really is, by visualizingthe geothermal energy solution and energy use at the store. Although geothermal energy is awell-established source of energy it is relatively unknown in today's debates on renewableenergy. Also in IKEA, there is a certain lack of knowledge about how the geothermal energysolution works. It may be that the solution is relatively autonomous and invisible, even morethe energy supplied from the geothermal energy solution meets the same requirements interms of heat and cold, like other energy plants can offer. The problem presentation issummarized as follows:- To visualize the geothermal energy solution and energy utilization at IKEA in Malmö- To clarify how the electricity utilization could be lowered in the plant by continuousmonitoring and implementation of new routines for collecting dataObjectivesThe report aims to present a visualization of the geothermal energy solution and the energyuse at IKEA's store in Malmö. The accumulation of energy utilization will be the basis forIKEA to follow how the geothermal energy solution supplies energy and to allow themonitoring and optimization of the plant to be improved, resulting in a good ability forreduced use of electricity.MethodThe project is based on a review of related documents from the construction of the geothermalenergy solution at the IKEA department store built in Malmö in 2009. Discussions have beenheld with people who have been, or are involved in the geothermal energy solution at IKEAin Malmö. Logged and compiled data for temperature, flow and energy are visualized withgraphs that the operations staff at IKEA can update regularly, and use for optimizationmeasures and monitoring of the geothermal energy plant.7
