En sammanfattning av det brittiska regelverket ges i avsnitt 4.3.3.
6.6.1 Safety Assessment Principles, SAP
British Standard ger ej ut några kärnkraftsspecifika regelverk avseende reaktorinneslutningar
av betong (förutom för inneslutningskärl för gaskylda reaktorer
10 ) eller andra säkerhetsrelaterade byggnader vid kärnkraftsanläggningar.
Vad som finns att tillgå är istället SAP respektive TAG utgivna av HSE . I
detta avsnitt berörs SAP medan TAG behandlas i nästa avsnitt. I SAP redovisas
bland annat ”Engineering Principles”. Engineering principle ECS.3 anger
följande vad gäller regelverk generellt:
”Structures, systems and components that are important to safety should
be designed, manufactured, constructed, installed, commissioned, quality
assured, maintained, tested and inspected to the appropriate standards.”
Vidare anges att:
“Appropriate national or international codes and standards should be
adopted for Classes 1 and 2 of structures, systems and components. For
Class 3, appropriate non-nuclear-specific codes and standards may be applied.”
“Codes and standards should be preferably nuclear-specific codes or
standards leading to a conservative design commensurate with the importance
of the safety function(s) being performed. The codes and standards
should be evaluated to determine their applicability, adequacy and
sufficiency and should be supplemented or modified as necessary to a
level commensurate with the importance of the safety function(s) being
performed.”
Slutligen ger man i Engineering principles ECS.4 och ECS.5 följande möjligheter:
”For structures, systems and components that are important so safety, for
which there are no appropriate established codes or standards, an approach
derived from existing codes or standards for similar equipment, in
applications with similar safety significance, may be applied.”
“In the absence of applicable or relevant codes and standards, the results
of experience, tests, analysis, or a combination thereof, should be applied
to demonstrate that the item will perform its safety function(s) to a level
commensurate with its classification.”
Det avsnitt i SAP som specifikt berör Civil Engineering ger ingen ytterligare
ledning, utan man specificerar endast att:

gaskylda reaktorer BS 4975:1990 Specification for prestressed
concrete pressure vessels for nuclear engineering. Denna typ av reaktorer
ingår emellertid ej i föreliggande uppdrag, vilket endast behandlar
vattenkylda reaktorer.
