There was a consistently smaller proportion of physically active persons among men and women<br />
with disabilities than in the rest of the population. Men and women with disabilities ate less fruit and<br />
vegetables than those in the rest of the population. Men with motor disabilities ate the least fruits<br />
and vegetables.<br />
Use of snus and alcohol equally common<br />
In the 16 to 64 age group, smoking daily was more common among women and men with disabilities<br />
than in the rest of the population. The proportion of daily smokers was largest among women with<br />
disabilities who lacked cash margins (30 percent). Smoking daily was more common among those<br />
with little education than among those with more extensive education and among those who lacked<br />
cash margins than among those who had cash margins, as well as among those with disabilities than<br />
in the rest of the popu lation. Having been exposed to second-hand smoke was also more common<br />
among persons with disabilities than in the rest of the population, except among older men.<br />
Daily snus use was almost equally common among men and women with disabilities as in the rest<br />
of the population. Risky alcohol habits were also almost equally common among men and women<br />
with disabilities as in the rest of the population.<br />
In the 16 to 64 age group, risky gambling habits were more common among persons with disabilities<br />
than in the rest of the population.<br />
Greater insecurity<br />
A larger proportion of men and women with disabilities had refrained from going out alone for fear<br />
of robbery, attack or other molestation compared with men and women in the rest of the population.<br />
Men and women with disabilities had to a greater extent been exposed to insulting treatment than<br />
those in the rest of the population. There was a significantly larger pro portion of men and women<br />
with a poor general state of health and with mental illness among those who had been exposed to<br />
insulting treatment than among those who had not been exposed, as well as among those with disabilities<br />
than among the rest of the population.<br />
It was also more common to have been exposed to threats of violence and physical violence<br />
among men and women aged 16 to 64 years with disabilities than among those in the rest of the<br />
population. Both threats of violence and physical violence were most common among women with<br />
motor disabilities.<br />
Lack practical and emotional support<br />
A larger proportion lacked faith in other people among men and women with disabilities than in<br />
the rest of the population. Lacking faith in other people was more common among men with little<br />
education than among those with more extensive education as well as among those with disabilities<br />
than in the rest of the population. Lacking faith in other people was also more common among men<br />
and women who lacked cash margins than among those with cash margins, as well as among persons<br />
with disabilities than in the rest of the population.<br />
Lacking confidence for the institutions of society was significantly more common among persons<br />
with disabilities than in the rest of the population. Confidence was greatest for healthcare, the courts<br />
and the police and least for politicians in the county council and the municipality.<br />
Men and women with disabilities lacked support to a greater extent than those in the rest of the<br />
population. The proportion of men and women who lacked practical support was larger among those<br />
with disabilities, except for men aged 65 to 84 years, than in the rest of the population. The propor-
