service. The real estate companies that already were making use of energy monitoring<br />

services reported several positive effects from this. For example, the service<br />

facilitated forecasting, and from the feedback they could find anomalies in the<br />

consumption and consumption that could be regarded unnecessary, which made it<br />

easier to know where to put in actions that could lower the consumption. Energy<br />

monitoring also helped companies to better align their energy use to the price<br />

components in their utilities’ pricing models such as charge for flow or peak load<br />

consumption, which helped the real estate companies to save money. Many of the real<br />

estate companies also showed interest in obtaining reports of environmental load per<br />

kWh. This information could be used as information to the real estate business<br />

tenants, who have become be more and more interested in environmental and energy<br />

issues in recent years according to the interviewed real estate companies. Also<br />

residential customers and condominium associations reported that they were<br />

interested in better feedback of their energy use, especially values enabling them to<br />

compare there usage with others or with energy usage patterns from earlier periods.<br />

Individual metering had been discussed in all the interviewed condominium<br />

associations, but none had actually made any decisions to install such systems.<br />

Energy audit was seen as an interesting service for some of the homeowners and<br />

condominium associations; although they found that the service would become more<br />

interesting if they also could get help with taking the next step. It did not seem<br />

sufficient only to measure and analyze the energy consumption without also carrying<br />

out the suggested measures or at least guiding the customer in who to turn to.<br />

The real estate companies in the study often had in house competence to carry out<br />

energy audits, and many of them had equipment like infrared cameras. The attitudes<br />

to the statuary energy certificates were that these did not reveal very much new<br />

information; they could however give an overview of the energy use in the stock.<br />

Some real estate companies had used the information about the energy efficiency<br />

measures given in the energy certificates as an inspiration to make own calculations<br />

to see if the measures would be profitable enough to carry out.<br />

The interest in energy advice was great in all target groups in the study.<br />

Homeowners were primarily interested in advice on the choice of heating systems,<br />

advice on energy efficiency opportunities when rebuilding, and electrical safety<br />

issues. The condominium associations were interested in energy advice for<br />

redevelopment. The real estate companies said that they were interested in advice on<br />

the choice of heating systems and other technology choices and advice for renovation<br />

and redevelopment. It was advised that the energy advices were given with the<br />

customer’s perspective at the centre.<br />

The demand for energy efficiency measures differed among different homeowners<br />

and condominium associations. This was due to the fact that they all had different<br />

prerequisites, for example factors like the age of the house, the condition of the<br />

property and the design of the building differed. The condominium associations said<br />

that they had difficulty knowing which energy efficiency measures were more<br />

profitable and they also had problem knowing where to turn for help. Many of the<br />

real estate companies reported that they hired consultants to work with energy
