Jan Rudén, förbundsordförande: Förbundskamrater! Jag har det stora<br />

nöjet att hälsa hjärtligt välkommen till Philip Bowyer från UNI – UNI är<br />

det nya namnet på den gamla Post- och teleinternationalen som nu är sammanslagen<br />

med ett antal andra internationaler.<br />

Välkommen upp i talarstolen, Philip! I welcome you to Stockholm and to<br />

our congress. You are very welcome – the floor is yours!<br />

Vice generalsekreterare Philip Bowyer, UNI: Thank you very much! I am<br />

a Welshman. Welshmen are very famous for talking too much. But don't<br />

worry!<br />

First of all let me thank you for giving me this opportunity to address your<br />

congress on behalf of UNI and its 15 million members throughout the<br />

world. All of us throughout the world were shocked at the death last week<br />

of Anna Lindh, and it would be impossible for me to make a speech without<br />

mentioning this tragic event and to bring to you the sympathy of all<br />

people throughout UNI and throughout the world for this tragic loss by the<br />

senseless violence.<br />

We also hope that it will give people the chance to reflect on this question<br />

of violence which is affecting many countries and many societies and<br />

which is a major concern of citizens throughout the world. I am very lucky<br />

– I live in a small country, Switzerland, where our politicians – you see<br />

them on the buses, you see them on the trains, you see them in the shops,<br />

and there is no enormous security. It has never been felt necessary, and<br />

that adds to that valuable sense of freedom in our society, which was the<br />
