We recommend that the following investigations be performed:
• Determining the break down voltage for insulation as a function of the gap
between measuring wire and steel pipe
• Means to check the position of the measuring wire using TDR during
manufacturing pre-insulated pipes and components
• Determining basic data for the PUR insulation, i.e. electrical conductivity and
its changes as a consequence of the presence of water with different salt
contents
• Determining the electrical properties of moist insulation
At a later stage, these investigations may be followed by studies of mechanisms for
damage in test rigs in order to determine the sensitivity of the systems to quantity of
moisture, its geographical distribution, time delays to response, etc
