Presidential Report for CIRC 2011
Reception in January 2011
In January 2011, CIRC 2011 organised a small reception for the newly arrived exchange students. Every
Student received a welcome bag consisting of various items such as a SIM card for their mobile phones,
the coupon pamphlet from Göteborg &Co. the bag also consisted of a few forms, maps of the city and
university, information leaflets and vouchers.
The reception consisted of a series of activities including a tour of the city, university and library,
afterwork, ice skating, a sauna party at the Chalmers Sauna in Härryda, and various themed parties – for
instance karaoke and international dinner.
A meeting schedule was set up to be at lunch time every Tuesday and Thursday and hence we were open
to students during those times to come and ask any questions they had or simply spend time with us.
Reception in September 2011
Planning for the reception in September began almost immediately after the reception in January. CIRC’s
president participated in meetings with the presidents of other reception committees at MoS in addition
to meetings with reception representatives from the university and also in meetings with representatives
of receptions committees from other universities both in Gothenburg and outside during the spring and
onwards. The meetings with representatives from Chalmers enabled CIRC to discuss and plan the
reception and to co-ordinate its movements with that of both MK and the university itself.
During the time between the reception in Spring and Autumn, the Phadder Managers along with the
help of the rest of the team set to work finding Phadders for the students who would arrive in the
autumn. Information meetings and events were planned in order to attract phadders and to raise their
awareness on sensitive issues that they would have to keep in mind. A total of 137 phadders registered
at the end of process.
Simultaneously, the activity managers in conjunction with the others in CIRC 2011 started
conceptualising; planning and putting in place the necessary details for activities that would come into
the reception calendar.
The reception in September started with a presentation by CIRC during the Welcome presentation at
RunAn followed by the series of activities that had been planned. The students again received welcome
bags containing many things including, SIM cards from TELE2, maps, forms, brochures and discount
coupons. During the reception period, the Committee had many social activities for the new
international students and they happened almost every day. In addition to the social activities were CIRC
almost always available in the office to help students.
