BEST-training days
During the past year three soft-skill training days were arranged on topics such as
Project Management, Public Speaking and Persuasion. In total 45 people
attended the trainings; with a maximum capacity of 55.
EBEC- European BEST Engineering Competition
As a part of the larger European BEST Engineering Competition the local
committee at Chalmers organizes a yearly event together with corporate sponsors
to provide Chalmers students an opportunity to compete against each other and
against other European engineering students.
This year’s competition consisted of 40 students, divided into 10 teams, which
were tasked with building a hydro plant with limited resources and within 4 hours.
The two winning teams were the once who could pull a weight the furthest with a
set amount of water. Both teams were then sent to Stockholm to compete in the
regional final, where one of them came in on a proud second place.
Summer Course - “Synergy in Energy”
Our main objective and project of the year targeted at international students
who want to explore Chalmers; and experience what it is to be a student in
Sweden.
This year’s Chalmers Summer Course was on the topic “Synergy in Energy!” and how we can
utilize new sources of energy. It took place from the 17 th to 28 th of June 2012 with the
applicants being selected in mid-April.
The general idea of the course was agreed upon with the Chief Development Officer of
Chalmers. Together with Chalmers together with funds from Chalmers Mastercard also
helped finance the course.
129 applicants from all over the Europe applied to the Summer Course. From them only 22
the most motivated and academically prepared were accepted and got an opportunity to get
closer to Swedish culture and to learn from lecturers from Chalmers. The whole course was
done on a voluntary basis with local students handling everything from cooking to meeting
the participants once they arrived in Gothenburg.
