Chalmers BEST-committee
Chalmers BEST-kommitté is tasked with promoting Chalmers membership in
the organization Board of European Students of Technology.
The committee's work means that the members of the student union have the
opportunity to participate in international BEST events held at BESTs 93 member
universities in 32 countries. The committee organizes an annual engineering
competition, as a part of a larger European competion, and a BEST course at
Chalmers every year. This event is intended for students at other BEST
membership universities in the same way as the BEST courses at other
universities only is available for external students. The Committee is also working
to be an active part of the BEST development on an international level and
participate in decision-making meetings such as BESTs Presidents' Meeting and
General Assembly which are held annually.
Throughout the year 95 BEST courses are organized in which all members of the
union have the possibility to apply for.. A total of 40 applications from Chalmers
was recived during the four seasons this year. 11 of those was later accepted and
participated in BEST courses at another university.
The largest and most important event during the year for the committé was the
summer course "Synergy in Energy" in June 2012. The course gathered 24
students of technology from all around European, who shared an interest in new
sources of energy and the opportunities they offer. During the ten days that the
course lasted , participants learned more about the opportunities and challenges
we face. Besides lectures and the company visits to Renova and Sweden's tallest
wind turbines, they also got to experience Swedish student life, culture and nature
with the various activities in and around Gothenburg. Of all BEST summer
courses the Gothenburg in came in third out of a total of 45 different courses after
all evaluations.
In addition to the course arranged the committee also arranges an engineering
competition in collaboration with Norconsult. The two winning teams in the
competition qualified to the regional semi final in Stockholm. During the year, a
new local project was started up, BEST Training Days, in which the Committee
provides Chalmers students with the opportunity to improve their soft skills, for
example, project management and presentation skills.
