The mutual interaction should also be characterized by cooperation and responsiveness to<br />
patient needs, preferences and right to self-determination and to provide stimulus to the<br />
patient's involvement and responsibility for their own healthcare.<br />
Diversity and gender issues<br />
Communication with the patient and their family should be characterized by<br />
knowledge and respect for trans-cultural and diversity aspects such as age, language,<br />
ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion and gender.<br />
Inter-Professional Relations<br />
The surgical specialist should have the ability to communicate, both orally and<br />
in writing, with other doctors and employees, with respect for their professional knowledge<br />
and skills. The same applies to contacts with representatives of the public and community<br />
bodies.<br />

especially patients and their relatives but also other physicians and staff as well as students.<br />

The surgical specialist should have the ability to continuously examine and<br />
identify, including his/her surgical technical requirements, his/her own need for professional<br />
development to meet the requirements in the best possible care for patients.<br />

The surgical specialist should have developed the ability of self-knowledge and<br />
the understanding of his/her function and role in the organization.<br />
Tutorship<br />
The surgical specialist should have the ability to tutor and supervise other<br />
doctors and staff as well as students.<br />

The surgical specialist should have the capacity for leadership characterized by<br />
collaboration, openness and dialogue with co-workers. Leadership should also be<br />
characterized by participation and organisational development, which is improvementoriented.<br />
Ability to lead work in the care team is essential.
