2 KARTLÄGGNING OCH UTVÄRDERING AV SVENSK VÅRDFORSKNING – HUVUDRAPPORT OCH UNDERLAG FÖR VETENSKAPSRÅDETS REKOMMENDATIONER
strengths. It is not possible from the evidence given to highlight specific
areas of strength. The research to date is mainly nationally recognised.
The research group can be sufficient to establish a robust research unit. A
limitation here can be that the group is composed of researchers from many
different disciplines ; nursing, physiotherapy, social work , public health etc.
Even if they try to establish interdisciplinary projects, the heterogeneity of
the staff makes the group more vulnerable.
MdH seem to be a research institution on their way up, but they still
has a way to go to be an established institution at the international level. A
concentration of the research into a smaller number of programmes, may
be a way to go.
Overall rating: C/D (Internationally recognised / Regionally/Nationally)
SOPHIAHEMMET UNIVERSITY COLLEGE
Caring Science research is organised under the Department of Research and
Postgraduate Education. The department is led by an associate professor and
a professor is chair of the subject Nursing Science. Sophiahemmet University
Collage (SUC) do not have authority to award doctoral degree and thus do
not have research education in-house, hence collaboration with other HEIs.
Main Research Areas
Care Science at SUC is defined in close relation to the definition of Nursing
Science. This includes people in all parts of the life cycle, from birth to
death, and the domain is strengthened and developed through basic knowledge
in other fields of research, especially medical science and behavioural
and social science in combination with evidenced-based practice.
There is no actual research programmes indicated, however, four main
research areas described:
1) Emergency Care, 2) Long-term disease conditions, 3) Palliative Care,
and 4) Women’s and Child’s health.
Quality of Research
The Emergency area of research is under development. Research is focused
on Triage (organisational aspects and the consequences for patients of over-
and under triage), Incident sites (studies of measurable results from emergency
medical care, Swedish and European collaborations on a model for
measurement criteria, developed together with European Master of Disaster
Medicine), and Scenario and leadership training (development of scenarios
– no research yet).
