tion” has led to several scientific articles, conference presentations and
newspaper articles, and formulation of national guidelines. Home birthing
research has resulted in the construction of a large Scandinavian
database for all planned home births, which includes both medical data
and parents’ experiences.
• Rehabilitation Sciences Research The research conducted in Rehabilitation
Science is multidisciplinary and seeks knowledge about how individuals
with disabilities (physical, mental or social) can be stimulated, and how
the environment can be adjusted so that they can achieve increased participation
in social and working life. Also, health promotion and prevention
in the workplace are analysed. The project “The father role has not
changed” and ”The gap between equality in principle and practice, and its
consequences” shows that men, just like women, may be concerned about
in their daily life but that they do not ventilate family life with others in
the same way as women do.
• Other Care Sciences Research This research includes studies into mental
health and illness in children, measuring complex aspects of personal networks
in relation to persons with alcohol and substance use disorders, legislations
on compulsory commitment to care. Research is being undertaken
on how health professionals make judgments and act when concerns
are brought up about children or young people at risk of harm.
While these examples are interesting, they do not necessarily show that
much of care science research has a leading position internationally.
Research Collaborations and Networks (nationally and Internationally).
• Public Health Research As outlined above the public health research appears
strong with many national and some international collaborations
(See the ABUEL; EUGATE and PROMO projects). The European ABUEL
project (violence against the elderly) is quoted as evidence of being internationally
leading but despite having apparently produced scientific
articles none are listed among the publications in Appendix A.
• Nursing Science Research There is evidence of research collaborations
with Swedish universities, and with Norway, Australia, USA, Denmark
and Iceland.
• Rehabilitation Sciences Research The report shows that there are research
collaborations with other Swedish universities and with Norway and
Switzerland.
• Other Care Sciences Research There is not much written in the report on
this research area but there does appear to be collaborations with other
Swedish centres and with Portugal.
