theoretical modelling. The empirical research is extensive including both
assessment studies and intervention studies.
SHC research focuses on out-of-hospital care, particularly foreign-born
persons. This is a new area and the research is unique internationally.
Several doctoral theses have been published and HCL has a leading position
nationally and wide international collaboration.
The disability and Elderly Research Group is an upcoming area. The research
has contributed to national discussions.
The majority of listed publications are peer-reviewed publication in international
journals and some book chapters. A few publications are national,
and the list also includes peer-reviewed conference-contributions.
Research Collaborations and Networks (nationally and internationally)
All five centres have wide national collaboration. In particular FNN and
SHC have extensive international collaboration within and without Europe.
HCL has been a lead in establishing an international collaboration,
European Academy of Caring Science. However, some RGs are collaborating
with e.g. new UK universities with little or no research profile – Kings
College is an obvious exception to this.
Future plans and potential
Seem sound – but we were unclear how biological psychiatry fitted in the
scope of this review.
A key issue for the future is how Faculty of Health, Social Work and Behavioural
Sciences will link together their research areas within Care Sciences,
without neglecting the specific issues of each research field. Apart
from continuing on-going research, there are several research programmes
under development. One is community- and hospital-based mental health
services. Another is forensic psychiatric care services. The studies are supported
by psychometric testing using classic and modern test theory of instruments.
In addition, a variety of areas within psychology are mentioned
as future research focus.
Overall assessment of strong and weak research areas
Linneaeus University has some strong research units of which some have
high international reputation. LNU presents an array of research programmes
and topics for the future. In this respect LNU is characterised by the
recent merger of several centres and hence an overall cohesiveness is not
yet in place. However, LNU indicates priority to linking the research areas
together in near future.
