2 KARTLÄGGNING OCH UTVÄRDERING AV SVENSK VÅRDFORSKNING – HUVUDRAPPORT OCH UNDERLAG FÖR VETENSKAPSRÅDETS REKOMMENDATIONER
nuary 2010), provides the opportunity for the strategic work required. They
acknowledge the need to focus and consolidate in section12: plans for development
over the next five years.
Overall rating: A / B (World leading / Internationally Excellent)
ROYAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
The research at Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) involves the following
Schools and groups 1) School of Computer Science and Communication,
including Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Speech, Music and Hearing
(TMH), and Computational neuroscience and neuroinformatics; 2) School
of Technology and Health (STH), including Design, Work environment, Safety
and Health, DASH, Centre for Health and Building (CHB), Neuronic
engineering, Technology and Quality in Healthcare systems, Applied medical
technology, Medical sensors, signals and systems, Ergonomics and injury
prevention, Structural Biotechnology, Environmental Physiology, Centre
for Technology, Medicine and Health; and 3) Arc.Plan Research group.
Quality of Research
The panel lacked any statistics on staff numbers, PhD students or research
income so the scope of this report is limited. We also noted that the selfevaluation
report was mainly a list of the projects carried out by each research
group with no overarching coordination or commentary about how
the Care Sciences theme was interpreted or managed locally. There were no
plans for the future nor a section on research impact. Despite this the report
was 8 pages longer than requested.
Strong research areas
DASH / CHB – Relevant, innovative and accessible research but scanty publications.
Impact seems likely (Internationally recognised)
Neuronic engineering – ok but some projects (e.g. electro physiology) less eligible
for Care Sciences, no outputs since 2009. (Internationally/Nationally
recognised)
Applied medical technology – (Internationally/Nationally recognised) – but
some work (e.g. small animal PET) is clearly outside scope of Care Sciences.
Ergonomics – some work widely cited (Internationally recognised)
Other research groups
HCI – Mostly publications in proceedings journals and few journal articles,
not widely cited. (Nationally recognised)
