2 KARTLÄGGNING OCH UTVÄRDERING AV SVENSK VÅRDFORSKNING – HUVUDRAPPORT OCH UNDERLAG FÖR VETENSKAPSRÅDETS REKOMMENDATIONER
Research Collaborations and Networks (nationally and internationally).
The main collaborators are hospitals and other clinical or municipal care
settings locally and universities at both national and international levels.
There is also mention of collaboration with patient and service users’ organisations
and with local entrepreneurs. Again, this is very good but more
detail would have been welcome on the nature and quality of these collaborations
and whether or not they have led to joint research grants, joint
publications and joint conference presentations.
Future plans and potential
This is a short section and lacked details of a range of future plans. The
main one identified was the enhancement of interprofessional research through
the establishment of a multidisciplinary Health Academy. One would
have expected plans on human, financial as well as physical resources.
Overall assessment of strong and weak research areas
There are a range of research studies being carried out across three faculties
and four main research areas. Some of these are more mature than others.
The longitudinal studies referred to are of very good quality as is the work
in psychiatry (CLIPPS and the ’Quality in Psychiatric Care’ instrument).
The QPP work has obvious international relevance. There are some new research
areas such as CBT that have yet to mature. While much was made in
the report of the international collaborations, there was little real evidence
of this in many of the research studies. There is a lack of detail on how the
research is funded and how many doctoral student completions there were.
In addition, many of the professors are in the 60+ age range and there are
about twice as many staff over 60 years as under 40 years. There also seems
to be small numbers of doctoral students compared to senior research staff.
Therefore, an emphasis on succession planning and sustainable is lacking.
Nonetheless, the assessment for this submission is rated mainly national and
regionally significant (D).
KAROLINSKA INSTITUTET
Karolinska Institute (KI) has identified five core areas of research in Care
Sciences closely aligned to the Swedish Government Bills on Research and
Innovation. The report draws on the activities of multidisciplinary staff
drawn from 43 research groups, and covers all major basic orientations in
Care Sciences, thus revealing KI’s intention to be represented broadly across
Care Sciences research and to respond to the National Care Science re-
