2 KARTLÄGGNING OCH UTVÄRDERING AV SVENSK VÅRDFORSKNING – HUVUDRAPPORT OCH UNDERLAG FÖR VETENSKAPSRÅDETS REKOMMENDATIONER
Quality of Research
For each of these four main research areas there are 10 publications reported
from 2005, mostly peer reviewed articles. For the main research areas A, B
and C there are many publications in nursing and midwifery. This must be
seen in connection with the high number of staff engaged in nursing as
their primary subject of research.
It would seem that the four research areas have been constructed for the
purpose of this self-evaluation report and so they characterize the research
rather poorly. The key research achievements are not organised under these
areas. Internationally leading research is quoted in midwifery/childbirth related
subjects (which occurs across two research areas), and teenage bullying.
It is not obvious what kind of key successes has been achieved since 2005.
Some of the research seems to have high relevance and has led to changes in
practice locally and regionally. However, there are fewer major international
contributions reported.
There are details on a large list of research topics. These include, lifelong
learning and support to promote health and well-being, as well as to
prevent illness, well-being and supportive health through complementary
and alternative methods, instrument development for measuring outcomes
of interventions and implementations and the development of methods in
organizations promoting care. It is not clear whether the research in IT systems
falls within the Swedish Research Council’s definition of Care Sciences
Research. The number of topics appears large considering the limited
number and critical mass of staff in each of the research areas.
Research Collaborations and Networks (nationally and Internationally).
The self-evaluation report lists a number of national and international collaborations
for each of the main areas without indicating the form of the
collaboration. There seems to be too many collaborating institutions and,
considering the number of staff, this gives the impression of superficial collaborative
contact.
Future plans and potential
Future plans are described only in process terms but not in relation to
which research areas will be promoted and how. There is an aim to develop
interdisciplinary research and greater relationships and collaborations with
external partners and stakeholders and international partners. This indicates
that they want to do more of what they are currently doing. While this
may be acceptable, it does not appear to be very strategic.
