2 KARTLÄGGNING OCH UTVÄRDERING AV SVENSK VÅRDFORSKNING – HUVUDRAPPORT OCH UNDERLAG FÖR VETENSKAPSRÅDETS REKOMMENDATIONER
HALMSTAD UNIVERSITY
Research areas
Nursing is the key discipline with an overall focus on health promotion /
prevention and rehabilitation. Heart disease / cardiac rehab is a key area of
importance and more recently diet and weight control. Other areas include
health of people with mental disabilities and rheumtological disease / rehabilitation.
More generic research in terms of provision of nursing care also
features. Research seems to be highly relevant to clinical care though strategies
for dissemination and communication seem to be focused on local
initiatives through student seminar presentations rather than a coherent
and wide ranging dissemination strategy.
Quality of research
The quality of research is mixed but generally resides between regionally
and internationally recognised. Considering the total number of staff the
number of publications is not particularly high and in some cases is dependant
on the lead author being from a different institution. There is not a
huge amount of internal and external funding evident. More specifically:
Women’s health – focuses of Women’s experiences and reproductive
health. There appear to be only 5 substantive publications between 2006
and 2010 relating to stress and women’s perspectives. Research appears to
be of regional / national significance though there are collaborations noted
with Greece and Minneapolis.
Mental disability – focuses on perceptions on health and measurement.
The maximum 10 publications cited and between 2007 and 2011. Mainly validity
and reliability studies relating to outcome measures with some work
on attitudes. Main focus on two lead authors Jormfeldt (Lund University)
and Svedberg (Stockholm University). Research appears to be of regional /
national significance.
Diet and weight – quite a wide range of diet related studies resulting in
9 publications between 2005 and 2010. Major focus of effort appears to be
related to two authors Sundström (Umeå University) and Johansson (Halmstad).
There is evidence of national (Uppsala, Umeå) and international
(Netherlands) collaboration and the work in this area generally has a wider
impact and greater international recognition than in other areas.
Heart disease – only 7 publications cited between 2005 and 2011. Main
contributor Hildingh (Halmstad). The focus is on experience of care and
care organisation. The work is internationally recognised and there is some
mention of international collaboration.
