Neck pain – Only six peer reviewed publications but demonstrating some
internationally recognized publications.
The listed publications go back to 2005, and some of them are probably part
of the researchers` PhD`s.
In the self-evaluation we can also read that University of Gävle “has the
potential to take on a leading position nationally within the area “Healthpromoting
working life”. This is by now not proved, since the research areas
are in a starting phase, key achievements are so far missing.
Research Collaborations and Networks (nationally and Internationally)
The communication / dissemination strategy mainly focuses on sharing
with information with collaborators and more recently with regional practitioners
via a yearly conference. Some evidence of international conference
contributions. The list of collaborators does not indicate how this collaboration
takes form.
Future plans and potential
Scant information is provided, so this is very difficult to judge. No details
are mentioned, besides the aspiration to increase international collaboration.
The research teams now consist of ‘researchers who received their PhD
some time ago”. There is little mentioned about how Gävle plans to develop
the next generation of researchers, nor why the present researchers have
just started publishing.
Overall assessment of strong and weak research areas
University of Gävle is in a building-up phase regarding research activity. By
now the scientific results are not impressing. If they want to be a research
institution of good quality they have a way to go. Then they need to improve
the quality and competence of the staff, and to produce more international
publications.
The institution should give priority to engage staff with professor competence
within the main areas. Since there is a need to establish a larger critical
mass of researchers, it should be considered whether all research areas
should be developed further. Concentrating resources and competences, developing
research areas linked to the excellence center, could be a way to go.
A broader cooperation with larger research institutions seems to be needed.
