2 KARTLÄGGNING OCH UTVÄRDERING AV SVENSK VÅRDFORSKNING – HUVUDRAPPORT OCH UNDERLAG FÖR VETENSKAPSRÅDETS REKOMMENDATIONER<br />
Key achievements: Results from one study showed that if a previous negative,<br />
childbirth experience was associated with subsequent fear of new<br />
childbirths. Other research on violent encounters in psychiatric care highlighted<br />
the necessity of interpersonal encounters<br />
Caring Didactics Issues Research themes in this area include: learning strategies<br />
which strengthen carers’ preparedness to meet the patient’s life world;<br />
learning support which can optimize learning processes of students and carers;<br />
didactics that strengthen the patient’s own ability to achieve health<br />
and wellbeing; strategies to communicate research findings with the caring<br />
practitioners and to facilitate implementation of research findings in practice.<br />
In this area many of the studies are confined to Borås University. A<br />
small number involve other Swedish universities and there is one collaboration<br />
with Bournemouth University in England and one with the University<br />
of Ulster.<br />
Key achievements: In the research into Innovative learning environments<br />
the focus is on the intertwining process of theory, practice and life-world<br />
and how to acquire understanding of the patient’s world. This research has<br />
resulted in the establishment of educational units<br />
Care Ethics The main foci are Health care priority setting; Patient centred<br />
care; Clinical ethical reflection; Pre-hospital Care Ethics. In this area there<br />
are links with other Swedish universities and other organisations. Key achievements:<br />
Within Prehospital Care Ethics the research group undertook<br />
an international survey of ethical problems within prehospital care. The<br />
resultant article was one of the ten most downloaded articles in Nursing<br />
Ethics during 2007–2008.<br />
Pre-hospital Emergency Care, There are a number of studies highlighted under<br />
this research area: Experiences of patients and relatives; The assessment<br />
phase in pre-hospital emergency care; Life-saving care in emergency situations;<br />
Pre-hospital treatment and care; Pre-hospital care ethics; Working environment<br />
in pre-hospital emergency care; Ethical and existential dilemmas<br />
in combat areas; Development of an educational unit; Optimal level of care<br />
for people with non-urgent conditions.<br />
Other Swedish universities are involved in a small number of studies.<br />
Key achievements: The LINDRA study evaluates whether there is an association<br />
between the caring approach and the degree of cardiac pain relief.<br />
Preliminary results from 1800 patients suggest that patients treated by specially<br />
educated ambulance nurses have better pain relief and less anxiety<br />
after admission to hospital. Key publications listed in the report are in good<br />
