2 KARTLÄGGNING OCH UTVÄRDERING AV SVENSK VÅRDFORSKNING – HUVUDRAPPORT OCH UNDERLAG FÖR VETENSKAPSRÅDETS REKOMMENDATIONER
There is a recognized need to gain more major funding and greater national
and international recognition. The recent reorganization of what was apparently
a rather disparate group of researchers across nursing, applied health
technology and public health into the two distinct thematic programmes
of research described shows good future potential for growth and a clear
strategy for development.
Overall assessment of strong and weak research areas
There was very little detail on “key achievements” (Q6) so an overall assessment
is difficult. This is perhaps because of the relative ‘youth’ of
the two key themes reported. The research within the two new themes
has a logical coherence, although there may be benefit from delineating
the research themes in HT more clearly. In the SAA theme, a particular
strength has been involvement in the SNAC study as demonstrated by
the publications in this theme. Overall, the publication profile is needs
development.
There is evidence that BTH have paid attention to assessing areas of success
and they are clearly seeking to sustain and concentrate research efforts
in a programmatic manner and to build up interdisciplinary opportunities:
this is a distinct strength. The evidence of national and EU collaborations
is also distinct strength, although these now need to be extended and built
upon to gain international recognition. Through the latter, there are opportunities
to have greater impacts in the future on national and European
health policy and practice.
Overall rating: D (Regionally/Nationally)
CHALMERS
Chalmers performs research mainly within the orientations Health promotion/prevention
and Broad Research Orientation and includes five main research
areas: improvement science, architecture, food science, eHealth and
intelligent systems.
Chalmers definition of Care Sciences is “that Care Sciences affect the
entire person’s well-being and concerns a person’s experience of the care
chain, including both caretakers and employees in Healthcare services. “
Quality of Research
Healthcare Improvement science; research focused on healthcare process improvement,
working with many healthcare organizations. Two good papers
in BMJ Quality and Safety.
