Method
To obtain information about how involved people in the sports perceived
the rule system and the judgments, individual one-hour interviews
were made with two judges, two coaches, and four elite athletes from
each of the sports acroski and RG. All interviewed people had very
long experience of their sports on the elite level.
The rule systems and judging manuals and the changes in those during
1986-1998 in acroski and during 1983-1997 in RG 16 were studied,
together with meeting protocols and historical documents. Discussions
with people working for the respective federations did also take place.
Results
In both of these sports the judging system and the content in the rules
have gone through many changes. The quick evolution of these sports
seemed to be the main reason for these changes but also other factors
where of vital importance.

acroski new rulebooks and judging manuals are published every year but since the
first World Championship was organized 1986 and that could be counted as a “new
start” for the sport, the acroski study, originated from that year.
