A pioneer of social medicine

She was a Romanian biologist and physician,

she founded the I nstitute of Geriatrics of

Bucharest

- She obt ai ned her M.D. degree in

cardiovascular physiology in 1924. Her

focus was on physiology and theprocess of

aging.

- Aft er t hree-year st udy has invented adrug

down theaging process by about 40%.

- She founded the fi rst in the world

GEORGE ENESCU

August 19 th , 1881 - May 4 th , 1955

The titan of Romanian music

Romanian composer, violinist, conductor and

teacher. Regarded as one of the greatest

musicians in Romanian history.

GEORGE ENESCU

- Enescu was born in Romania, in the village of

Li veni (lat er renamed "George Enescu" in his

honor), in Botoșani County;

- Considered to be a wonder-child, on 5 October

1888, at the age of seven, he became the

youngest st udent ever admitted to the Vienna

Conservatory;

- Many of Enescu's works were i nfluenced by

Romanian folk musi c, his most popular

compositions bei ng the two Romanian

Rhapsodi es (1901–02), the opera Œdipe (1936),

and thesui t es for orchestra.

- The George Enescu Fest i val held in honor of

Enescu, is the bi ggest classi cal musi c fest i val

held in Romania ( from 1958 was 25 editions).

MIRCEA ”THE ELDER”

BASARAB

1355 – 1418

The Voivode of Wallachia from 1386 until his

death in 1418.

He was the most important Wallachian ruler

during the Middle Ages, during his reign

Wallachia controlled the largest area in its

history.

Mi rcea the Elder was born in 1355 and he di ed on

January 311418 at theage of 62-63years old.

Mi rcea was the son of voivode Radu I of

Wallachia, thisbei ng adescendant of the House of

Basarab.

On October 10, 1394, the Ot t oman army led by

Sul t an Beyazid I, was defeat ed in the Bat t le of

Rovine and Mi rcea t hrew the Ottomansout of the

country;

Our high school was named aft er this famous

ruler and we have a statue in his memory in

the high school yard, and one in the cent er of the

city.

One of the world’s foremost interpreters of

religious symbolism and myth.

He was a Romanian historian of religion,

fiction writer, philosopher, and professor at the

University of Chicago, one of the most

influential scholars of religion of the 20 th

century.

Traian Vuia was an inventor, pioneer of world

aviation.

Although he studied for a year at the

Polytechnic, he graduated from Law school. He

obtained hisdoctorate in Legal Sciences.
