Carl Herrling, ex-K2TVT, who helped a 13-year-old neophyte radio amateur and
budding author construct and erect his very first antennas—including a three-wire
dipole for 80 meters!
On the publishing side of this project I must mention:
Tom Nutt-Powell, an author in an entirely unrelated field, whose one-sentence
motivational “mantra” (that I can’t repeat here) kept me on track when it seemed
as though I would never find the right words—or, for that matter, any words;
Ginny Carroll, whose efficiency, competence, and shared love of the English
language made the final stages of the review and editing process a joy; and
Judy Bass, who enthusiastically carried the ball for this project within McGraw-
Hill, and who worked with me to develop a schedule we all could live with.
Finally, my entire family has been enthusiastic beyond belief, but two members in
particular deserve specific praise:
Nathan Dougall, my stepson, whose gift to me of the fourth edition of this book
started this whole project, even as he embarked on his own book; and
Linda, my wife, who was instantly supportive at the onset of this project, and who
has since administered the loving but firm prodding I periodically needed.
