HOINARUL LUI BAUMAN VS. VAGABONDUL LUI DOINAŞ
VIORELLA MANOLACHE
Abstract. According to Doinaş and Bauman, the vagabond has in possession a
cognitive map, an unstructured space of movement, extraterritoriality, and independence.
Their ground game has as borders the exotic/ aesthetic line. The rest is just false meetings
(Bauman), which disturb the existence (Doinaş) because the vagabond has a pilgrim
destination, a migratory route without having his own biographical time.
If Ştefan Augustin Doinaş’ article focuses upon Panait Istrati: The last
Vagabond (published in Luceafărul, 1943), Bauman became familiar with his theory in
2000 (in Romania), by publishing Postmodern Ethics. While Bauman is linked to
postmodern space and its typology (the vagabond is placed in the postmodern
condition), Doinaş’ vagabond, although initially claimed by the uncertain romanticmodern
space is gradually deploying these coordinates, becoming a wonderful human,
with an antinomic structure, no longer a fully modern man.
For Doinaş, the last vagabond remains a wonderful human being with an
antinomic structure, searching as Diogenes, with his heart's lamp, a Man!
Key words: Doinaş, Bauman, “vagabond”, being, becoming, postmodernism.
imaginilor, lumea fantasmagorică a mass-media.
generalizate.
