Ex-Privato – o schimbare de statut, negocierea unui spafliu privat øi transformarea
lui într-unul public, o lucrare semnatæ Daniel Knorr. În Rovereto (cel mai mic oraø
în care Manifesta s-a instalat, cu aproximativ 30.000 de locuitori), spafliul expoziflional
Ex-Peterlini, fostæ fabricæ de cacao øi garaj pentru autobuze, unde, în 2003, un grup
anarhist din oraø a organizat un squat 1 , o clædire abandonatæ øi închisæ pentru mulfli
ani, a devenit spafliu public în urma unei serii de negocieri cu autoritæflile locale, purtate
de Knorr. Uøile celor douæ intræri (din Via Savioli øi Via Prati) au fost eliminate
cu totul, spafliul devenind unul deschis 24 de ore din 24. În interior expun o parte
dintre artiøtii din modulul curatoriat de Adam Budak, iar multe dintre lucræri øi-au
schimbat conceptul iniflial ca urmare a intervenfliei lui Knorr. De pildæ, lucrarea video
a lui Miklós Erhardt øi a colectivului Little Warsaw, La nave dei folli – Corabia nebunilor,
reflectæ într-o manieræ alienatæ chiar ocuparea spafliului în urmæ cu cinci ani.
La cîteva zile de la deschiderea bienalei, un grup øi-a fæcut apariflia în timpul nopflii,
a tæiat ecranul din pînzæ pe care se proiecteazæ filmul, a furat suportul pe DVD al
lucrærii, distrugînd chiar øi DVD-playerul. Zvonurile spun cæ actul a fost comis de
anarhiøtii locali, care voiau sæ arate cæ existæ, iar toatæ aceastæ poveste îi deranjeazæ.
Ex-Peterlini este „pæzit“ de angajaflii Manifesta, ei înøiøi locuitori ai Roveretoului, care
au înfleles proiectul lui Daniel Knorr øi simt nevoia de a le explica gestul artistului
celor care viziteazæ spafliul.
Noul statut al spafliului a devenit, în scurt timp, o prezenflæ normalæ, scurtætura pe
care oamenii, la orele amiezii, o folosesc în drum spre masa de prînz luatæ în Via
Prati, la o cantinæ foarte popularæ în oraø. Apoi, copiii îøi atrag bunicii cætre Volkswagenul
multicolor al lui Janek Simon. În sfîrøit, pe 4 octombrie, de Ziua Artei Contemporane
în Italia, o trupæ localæ de teatru a realizat un spectacol-performance
în interiorul Ex-Peterlini. Locuitorii oraøului deja se întreabæ ce se va întîmpla cu acest
loc dupæ Manifesta 7 øi mutaflia produsæ de Daniel Knorr. Se pare cæ spafliul va intra
în custodia Mart-ului, Muzeul de Artæ Modernæ øi Contemporanæ din Rovereto.
Aøadar, probabil va deveni definitiv un spafliu de expoziflie.
Fundamental o lucrare invizibilæ, Ex-Privato se concretizeazæ prin toate evenimentele
desfæøurate în spafliu pe perioada Manifestei 7. Ziarele Ex-Privato, publicate
bilingv øi simultan în Italia (în colaborare cu douæ cotidiene locale) øi România (în colaborare
cu sæptæmînalul Observator cultural), documenteazæ lucrarea lui Daniel Knorr.
De altfel, în viitorul apropiat, artistul îøi propune publicarea unei cærfli cu tot ceea ce
a însemnat Ex-Privato. În fapt, fiecare act ori discuflie în øi despre Ex-Privato reprezintæ
o materializare a lucrærii. Acest text urmeazæ aceeaøi logicæ: el intervine reflectînd
asupra lucrærii de artæ prin intervievarea lui Francesco Silvino, unul dintre paznicii
fostei fabrici, a cærui pasiune este fotografia øi care de-a lungul Manifestei 7 a documentat
proiectul, fæcînd peste 1.000 de poze în interiorul Ex-Peterlini.
¬ Daria Ghiu: Cum ai ajuns sæ lucrezi pentru Manifesta 7?
√ Francesco Silvino: Era un moment în care nu mai aveam serviciu. Am aflat
de acest post de paznic al expozifliei din Ex-Peterlini prin oficiul pentru forflele de
muncæ.

Ex-Privato – a change of status, the negotiation of a private space
and its transformation in a public one, a project by Daniel Knorr.
In Rovereto (Manifesta’s smallest city of installment, with its approximately
30,000 inhabitants), the exhibition space Ex-Peterlini
– a former cocoa factory and a bus-garage, squatted in 2003 by an
anarchist group from the city, abandoned and closed for many years
– has become a public space following a series of negotiations with
the local authorities, led by Daniel Knorr. The doors of the two
entrances (from Via Savioli and from Via Prati) have been completely
removed, and the space is now open 24 hours out of 24. A part of
the artists in the module curated by Adam Budak exhibits inside,
many of the works changing their initial concept, in relation to Knorr’s
intervention. For example, Miklós Erhardt and Little Warsaw’s video
work La nave dei folli – The Ship of Fools reflects in an estranged
manner the squat from 2003. Several days after the opening of the
biennial, a group of people appeared in the middle of the night, cut
the textile screen onto which the work was projected, stole the DVD
support of the film, and ruined the player itself. The rumors say that
the act was committed by local anarchists, willing to a proof of their
existence, and that they are not very happy about the whole story.
Ex-Peterlini is being “watched” now by Manifesta employees, themselves
inhabitants of Rovereto, who have understood Daniel Knorr’s
project and involuntarily feel the need to explain the gesture to whoever
visits the space.
The new status of this place has been integrated, in short time, in
the daily life normality, for example, as a shortcut used by the workers
in their lunch breaks while they head towards the popular cafeteria
in Via Prati. Then, there are the children dragging their
grandparents towards Janek Simon’s multicolored Volkswagen.
And finally, on the Day for Contemporary Art, celebrated in Italy on
the 4th of October, a local theatre group made a performance inside
the Ex-Peterlini building. The city’s inhabitants are already wondering
what will happen with Ex-Peterlini after Manifesta 7, as Daniel
Knorr’s project has already produced these mutations. It seems that
the space will be taken in custody by Mart, Rovereto’s Museum for
Modern and Contemporary Art. Therefore, perhaps definitely an
exhibition space.
Fundamentally an invisible work, Ex-Privato turns into concrete
through all the events taking place in the space during Manifesta 7.
The Ex-Privato newspapers, published bilingually and simultaneously
in Italy (in the local press) and Romania (in the weekly cultural magazine
Observator cultural) document Knorr’s work. Actually, the artist
intends to publish a book, which should comprise every meaning
and event leading to Ex-Privato. This text follows the same logic:
it intervenes reflecting the artwork by interviewing Francesco Silvino,
one of the ex-factory’s guardians, whose passion is photography and
who has documented this project during Manifesta 7, taking more
than 1,000 photos inside Ex-Peterlini.
