scena
etaj construit e aproape umbra, apariflia idealæ a originalului.
Heinz n-a
fancast.com/people/Leni-Riefenstahl/218135/biography. Imaginea cea mai surprinzætoare
pe care o putem gæsi pe net (http://www.ushmm.org /wlc/ media_ ph.
a writer and an actress, and Fritz Lang, a European architect is invited
by the Eschnapur maharajah to India where he gets into all sorts
of trouble. The movie reached the screen in three different versions,
Joe May’s, in 1921, Richard Eichberg’s, in 1938, and Fritz Lang’s,
in 1959. Starling installed all three movies at the Ludwig Museum.
When Lang’s movie was shot, he was no longer von Harbou’s husband
for a long time. They broke up in 1933 and, according to
Wikipedia, the main reasons for the divorce have been her sympathy
for Hitler and her entering the Nazi party (http://en.wikipedia.org/
wiki/Thea_von_Harbou). It was the year when, on the other continent,
Muthesius and Leitner had photographed the Indian palace, still
in the fullness of its beauty, and Lang moved to Paris, because one
of his movies had been banned by the Nazis. The same year Bauhaus
closed, and Joe May immigrated to America with his wife. Eichberg
waited until the last moment, in 1938, when he decided to find
refuge in Switzerland. It’s a common place that ideas break when
encountering the contingencies of reality. And that some are times
favorable to ideas and times favorable to their breaking apart.
Nazism not only ended dreams, art schools and marriages; among
its victims there was the famous plumber. Heinz never reached the
respectable age of 101, his sister had when she died. Her brother
had fallen at 38, defending Hitler on the Russian front, as we find out
on the web page http://www.fancast.com/people/Leni-Riefenstahl/
218135/biography. The most surprising image we can find on the
net (http://www.ushmm.org/wlc/media_ph.php?lang=en&ModuleId
=10007410&MediaId=6351&print=y), tracing the story, is a photograph
taken by Leni Riefenstahl and which today is held in custody
by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. It shows Heinz
Riefenstahl respectfully standing in front of the Führer, who smiles
at him. The maharajah was kneeled down not by the fire set to the
world, but by something else. First, the premature death of his wife
changed his spirits and made him lose interest in art. Perhaps this is
the reason why his other grand project, “The Deliverance Temple”,
was never built. This grandiose project, reuniting all cultures and
time, would have unified the Hindu spirituality, the modernist idealism
and the purified spirituality, which transcends time, of Brancusi’s
sculptures. The idea of this sanctuary can only exist in our consciousness
today only as a perfect building which couldn’t cope with its
materialization. If ever built, it would certainly start a small religious
reform.
Brancusi had made several aquarelles and sketches of the project,
many of them being borrowed to the exhibition we are talking about
by the Pompidou Center in Paris. Among the projects never to be
accomplished, there is the idyllic picture of the reigning couple,
taken by Man Ray, who didn’t suspect at all the ruin about to take
place. Only an idea never accomplished may avoid the destiny of the
palace: after its owner’s death, he became the headquarters of the
of the Commissioner, Customs & Central Excise. Its spaces were
crammed by documents piling up and a great deal of the fancy furniture
ended up in an auction. Starling has documented this spiritual
erosion through a photo series: in 2007, he went there to see what
has been left of the remarkable work seventy years after its building.
As for the destination of Brancusi’s birds, we find it out in a 2003
issue of the Indian Express magazine (http://iecolumnists.expressindia.
com/print.php?content_id=17002). According to this website, two of
them reached an Australian museum and the third one has disappeared
– Romanian diplomats are trying to trace it in India.
