WITH POTATO VIRUS M<br />

SUMMARY<br />

Over 16,500 genotypes belonging to 295 parental forms originating from 68<br />

species of Solanum genus distributed in 10 taxonomix serries, were tested for<br />

their resistance ta potato virus M, during 1970-1971. A numbe1' of 40-100 genotypes<br />

were inoculated in case of each parental form. An isolate of potato virus lVI<br />

obtained from Oslava variety, and p1'opagated an tomato plants, was used in inoculations.<br />

Two inoculations were performed Le. one by help of an inoeulation<br />

gunant the othe1' by help of a spatula. Infection was controled by the method of<br />

serologie precipitation on slides. Infected genotypes were discovered in aH of the<br />

parental forms, the great majority showing an incidence of over 50 0/ 0 • No highly<br />

resistant genes were evidenced in an of the studied parental forms.. In certain<br />

parental forms bruonging to the S. garciae, S. commersonii, S. gibberulosum, S. pa­<br />

TOdii. S tarijense, S. sanctae-rose, S. simplificolium, S. andigena and S. subandigena<br />

speeies, the ineidence of infected genotypes p1'oved to be reduced (under 250/0).<br />

It is evident that these genotypes possess certain resistance faetlOrs, but the 1'esistance<br />

type of the plant material used in the work eould not be established.
