prices were also paid to individual and high quality logs of Sorbus domestica (638 €/cu.m) and pear tree (600 €/cu.m).<br />

The best sold log – 3,300 €/cu.m - also belonged to the wild service tree, the only species approaching this value being<br />

sycamore (with “wavy” wood), with a maximum price of 3,055 €/cu.m.<br />

Taking into account the wide variation of prices of all species depending on log size and quality, it is obvious that<br />

the production of high quality and well paid trees and logs depends on a careful, long-lasting and sustained effort of both<br />

silviculturists (tending the forests and promoting the final crop trees) and loggers (taking care of these trees during tree<br />

felling and skidding operations).<br />
