Cîteva gînduri despre instalaflia lui Dan Perjovschi
A scrie despre instalaflia lui Dan Perjovschi What Happened to Us?
acestei instituflii.
RUPTURE AS A TOOL OF ACTIVE ENGAGEMENT
A Few Thoughts on Dan Perjovschi’s MoMA Installation
Projects 85: Dan Perjovschi, What Happened to Us? MoMA,
To write a review of Dan Perjovschi’s installation What Happened
to Us? at the Museum of Modern
Art’s Projects 85 space in
New York this summer
presents certain difficulties
for me. It is not difficult
because it is a “bad“
or “good“ installation but
because the installation
evokes stories beyond the
usual avenues of critical
engagement.
It is not that I am biased
towards the art or the artist to
see it with a critical eye.
My experience of the piece
from Dan’s public installation
as he dangled forty feet high on
a cherry picker machine above the crowds in the Donald B. and
Catherine C. Marron Atrium to the well attended opening made
me think about past and future art history and the fortuitous
accidents in life that breed great experiences and stories. Dan’s
installation made me think about MoMA, its public history, my
personal history with it as well as the canon of artists whose work
designed the institution’s very foundation.
Beginning with Roxana Marcoci, the Curator of Photography
at MoMA and the curator of this project, her impressive ability to
comfortably feature Dan’s work at a historically conscious institution
like MoMA is notably unique. In my many years as a visitor
there, I have never seen an artistic material like wall graffiti presented
in the center of the Museum nor have I seen the crowds that
Dan’s public installation generated. Marcoci’s curatorial
success is an important
historical breakthrough
for the Museum.
