Overview: Pucioasa is a resort located along Ialomita river, in Dambovita county. The resort has
2 natural therapeutic factors: sulphurous mineral water and sedative bioclimate. The sulphurous mineral
water is externally used.
Aim: the main aim of this study is to determine the effects of mineral sulphurous water used
externally for diabetic patients.
Material and method: The study is a prospective one, case-control, for diabetics, being now in
the recruitment phase. The patients are followed clinically (well being, blood pressure) and lab studies
(blood tests addressed mainly to glicemic state and inflamatory state too).
Results: Preliminary data sustain improvement of glicemic control and inflamatory state.
Conclusions: Balneary treatment in Pucioasa could be used as adjuvant therapy for diabetics. It
determines an easier control of glycemia and an improvement in the inflammatory status.
continue a infrastructurii.
Sovata resort, located in Transylvania, at the edge of Gurghiu mountains, was known by the
period of Romans for salt mines. Since 1578, it was certified under the name Sovata. The soil, rich in salt,
allowed salt lakes to appear, and these lakes were the start point for ballneary activity. The first
description of the therapeutic effects of the salt water was written in 1597. In 1884, Sovata was officially
recognized as balneary resort.
In 1900, the baths from upper Sovata region (nowadays health resort) was opened, the research
concerning the heliothermal effect of Bear Lake has started and since 1929 the medically supervised
balneary treatment was introduced. During 1975-1983 were built several hotels near Bear Lake and the
medical tourism as mass phenomenon has appeared. Since 2001, three of these hotels (Sovata, Bradet,
