ABSTRACT
The pollution of water with nitrates represents a major risk for the health of the
children from the rural areas, when the well water is not safe (chemical and bacteriological).
Between 1985 and 2005, were registered 3314 cases of infant acute maethemoglobinemia, out
of which 105 cases were lethal. The risky areas were identified in N-E and South of the
country. The concentration of the nitrates in the well water was over 50mg/liter at 78% from
the samples which were checked at the poisoning cases from 2005. From the microbiological
point of view, the samples of well water were not proper in a percentage of 34, showing
faecal coliforms and faecal streptococci. This is the explanation of the association of the
maethemoglobinemia cases with severe diarhorea disease in 47% of the events from 2005.
The acute infections of respiratory tract were associated with the poisoning cases in 41%.
Keywords: nitrates, well water quality, child, maethemoglobinemia.
INTRODUCERE
Folosirea pe scară tot mai largă a
îngrăşămintelor azotate, în scopul sporirii
producţiei agricole, a dus la o creştere a
conţinutului de nitraţi în sol, în unele
produse agro-alimentare, în apele de
suprafaţă şi subterane. Creşterea
concentraţiilor de nitraţi în apă şi alimente
se corelează cu o frecvenţă crescută a
cazurilor de intoxicaţii, în special la sugari.
Toxicitatea nitraţilor apare endogen, când în
porţiunea proximală a intestinului, în
prezenţa unor bacterii reducătoare (E.coli,
enterococi, stafilococi) se formează nitriţi.
Aceştia se absorb şi formează cu
hemoglobina, methemoglobina- MtHb, care
