Prezentarea activităţii de cercetare
Ecologie Sistemică, Eco-diversitate şi Sustenabilitatea Dezvoltării:
Dezvoltarea instituţională pentru cercetare şi
formare a resursei umane la Universitatea din Bucureşti
Traiectoria urmată în activitatea de cercetare a fost
marcată de colaborarea cu şi orientarea asigurată de către
doi oameni de ştiinţă eminenţi – i) Prof. dr. E.C. Slater,
membru al Academiei Regale a Marii Britanii şi fondator a
„Teoriei fosforilării oxidative” (perioada 1974/1975) şi ii)
Prof. dr. Nicolae Botnariuc (perioada 1976/1982), membru
al Academiei Române, promotor al „Teoriei şi metodei sistemice”
în biologie şi ecologie şi creatorul primei şcoli de
ecologie ecosistemică în România.
În peste 34 de ani de activitate academică, componenta
de cercetare a fost dominantă. Aceasta a fost permanent cantonată
în prim-planul dezvoltării teoretice şi aplicative a
Ecologiei, de la faza ecologiei biologice la faza actuală a
ecologiei sistemice şi sustenabilităţii Complexelor Ecologice
Socio-Naturale. Problematica abordată a vizat treptat
structuri, mecanisme şi procese specifice ecologiei biologice
(domeniu mono şi interdisciplinar), ecologiei ecosistemice şi
organizării ierarhice a naturii (domeniu multi şi interdisciplinar)
şi ecologiei sistemice şi sustenabilităţii (domeniu
multi şi transdisciplinar). Pentru un interval scurt de timp
(1974/1975) obiectivul cercetării desfăşurate în Institutul de
Biochimie „B.C.P. Janssen”/Universitatea din Amsterdam,
a fost reprezentat de către particule submitocondriale, în
mod special proteina suspectată a fi implicată în cuplarea
complexului ATPază la membrana mitocondrială internă. În
domeniul ecologiei biologice, cercetarea desfăşurată în perioada
1976/1980 s-a axat asupra: i) testării, calibrării şi
aplicării unui set de indicatori biochimici (eg. ATP, chla, pigmenţi
respiratori) în evaluarea biomasei fito şi bacterioplanctonului,
respectiv a mecanismelor de răspuns ale unor
populaţii/specii, din componenţa faunei bentonice, faţă de
condiţiile de hipo sau anoxie la interfaţa sedimente – coloana
de apă a ecosistemelor acvatice continentale; ii) dinamicii
compoziţiei şi structurii populaţiilor sau/şi modulelor trofodinamice
dominante în ecosistemele acvatice ale Deltei
Dunării şi iii) bugetului energetic şi ratei de reciclare a nutrienţilor
sau a rolului îndeplinit de către aceleaşi componente
dominante în economia fizică a ecosistemelor acvatice
deltaice.

Brief Presentation of Research Activity
The trajectory followed in my academic career has been
decisively oriented and stimulated by two of the most prominent
scientists of the 20th century:
i) Prof. Dr. E.C. Slater, member of the Royal Academy
of UK and founder of the Theory of Oxidative Phosphorilation
and;
ii) Prof. dr. N. Botnariuc, member of the Romanian
Academy, promoter of the System’s Theory and Method in
the field of Biology and Ecology and founder of first national
School of Ecosystems Ecology.
In more than 34 years of academic activity, the research
was one of the major component which has been focused on
issues dealing with the theoretical and applied aspects in the
field of biological ecology, ecosystem ecology and hierarchical
organization of nature/environment and most recent in
the field of Systems ecology and Sustainability.
For a short time (1974/75), at the beginning of my
carreer, the research carried out at BCP Janssen Institute/
University of Amsterdam, was focused on submitochondrial
particles, in particular on protein assumed to be involved in
the coupling ATPase complex to inner mitochondrial membrane.
In the next phase (1975/1980), research focused on:
i) testing and applying a set of biochemical indicators for estimation
the biomass of phyto and bacterioplankton in the
lakes of Danube delta as well as the adaptive potential of
benthic chironomid populations to the hypo and anoxic conditions
at the water-sediment interface; ii) composition and
structure of dominant populations and/or trophodinamic
modules and iii) their role in the emergy flow and nutrient
cycling. In the field of ecosystem ecology and spatio-temporal
organization of nature/environment the research topics
have been diversified and focused (1980/2000) on: i) development
and applying the ecosystem theory to nature/environment
in order to contribute to the establishment of
scientific background for integrated or ecosystem approach
of the complexity of nature; ii) first identification and description
of eco-regions at national territory; iii) understanding
the dynamics of structural configuration and
functional regime of Lower Danube River wetlands
(LDRW) and catchment (LDRC); iv) understanding and as-
